The 'Royal Rajasthan on Wheels' is a joint venture of the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation Ltd., supported by the Development of Tourism (Government of India).This train is newly built and designed in a contemporary royal style. This Luxury version of present Palace On Wheels, (Royal Rajasthan Train Tour) runs on the same circuit of Rajasthan & Taj Mahal, but offers more personalised & additional onboard services. There are 36 Deluxe & Two Super deluxe Cabins, Two Resrto-Bar Lounge; & soon to be operational Spa & Business Centre saloons.

The 13 deluxe coaches have been rightly named after the famous palaces of Rajasthan viz. Hawa Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Surya Mahal, Moti Mahal, Sukh Mahal, Jal Mahal, Padmini Mahal, Kishori Mahal, Phool Mahal, Jogi Mahal, Kumbha Palace, Umaid Palace, Lalgarh Palace. The Super Deluxe coach is known as Taj Mahal.

Each Passenger Saloon has been given a nomenclature of a paticular Palace (Mahal in Hindi) & each Cabin is richly furnished in hues of Pearl, Ruby & Saphire colours.
